Moses († 1500 B.C.)gave mankind fundamental moral rules of behaviour. The reason why these are that fundamental is discovered only when the spiritual meaning is understood. For example, the tenth rule says that we should not long for (craving) the love (woman) of somebody, because then our love is not unconditional any more. Unfortunately this spiritual meaning has gone lost completely in the course of time. Thus the usefulness and necessity of these rules of life are not understood any longer. But Jakob Lorber has explained them very thoroughly and clearly.

Although everybody understands fully the straight meaning of "do not kill" there are millions of people who don't care. The spiritual connotation is not recognized, since the wording causes resistance. Moses says in the ninth rule that it is good for everybody to fully control all desires. For example, it is rather foolish to want to become rich. But why this is so foolish, becomes clear only when the real aim of our life as a human being is disclosed. This ninth rule does arouse many questions, since it seems a moral advice that clashes with human nature. Every human longing seems to be forbidden. That precisely is the reason why many people after Moses' days simply ignored this rule. They could not imagine what the use can be of "do not desire" since practically everybody has desires and almost nobody can fully control his greed and desires or his emotions. Suppression of such feelings is much more common, but that does not serve our spiritual development.

The reason for observing Moses' moral advices is simply the following: do opt for Love Itself, or for the worldly pleasures. If the aim is love, then there is no place for greed and desire since love equals sharing and supporting each other.

To reflect upon

Feelings of hatred will never disappear from this world by hating, but by loving one another. This is an eternal truth. Conquer anger by love; conquer evil by doing well. Conquer the miser by giving; conquer the liar by truthfulness.
